How To Organize A Small Kitchen
When buying
a home, there are some things you're going to prioritize above others. Maybe
you want that large bathtub rather than a sea view, or a bigger living room in
exchange for a smaller bedroom. Maybe the home you bought has everything you
want, but the kitchen is on the smaller side. Just because you have a smaller
kitchen, doesn't mean that you can't fit everything in. Here's how you can
organize it to make everything fit with ease.
Declutter
Your Kitchen
Whether you're
getting ready to move into your Mr
C Residences new construction home, or you're just dealing with an existing
small kitchen, the first thing to do is to declutter. You don't want to find
space for items you don't use, so it's better to remove them now.
Go through
each cabinet, and empty it out totally. Then, you can see what you have and
what you need to get rid of. It's amazing what gets shoved to the back of a
cabinet and forgotten about. Pare down what you own to just the essentials. If
you're not the type to entertain often, do you need a full set of wine glasses
or could you just bring it down to two? Do you use all those kitchen gadgets
that you have in a drawer? Once you've cleared everything out, you cab then see
where you can store the belongings you're left with.
Add
Risers To Your Cabinets
In your
cabinets, there's more space than you'd think. Look at the vertical space in
your cabinets. The plates only stack up so high, and you want to be able to use
the space above them. Try adding risers to your cabinets to get the most out of
that space.
Risers add
what is essentially an extra shelf to your cabinets, so you can fit more in.
You can stack the plates below the riser, and then put your bowls on top. It
creates more space right away, and you'll be able to fit more into every
cabinet.
Use The
Insides Of Doors
You'll have
seen some people with small kitchens attach hooks to the walls, so they can
hang things like pots and pans. It certainly creates more space, but you don't
want to do that. That's especially true if you've bought one of the Mr C
Residences pre construction condos, as they gorgeously designed cabinets and
counters.
In this
case, you can still use vertical space, just on the inside of cabinet doors.
There are all kinds of solutions for doors that allow you to store anything you
like. Use suction cups and caddies to hold things like spices, oven gloves,
cleaning supplies, and more. You'll maximise space but you won't be able to see
a thing from the outside.
Buy A
Hollow Kitchen Island
If your
kitchen doesn't already have a kitchen island and you can fit one in, they're
brilliant for extra storage. Many come with cabinet space that allow you to fit
more things in them, where they're ready when you need them.
You can pick
an island that looks normal from the front, but has plenty of shelving in the
back. Many choose to use them for cookbooks and gadgets like slow cookers, so
they all have a good home. As a bonus, you'll get an extra counter top to work
on, too.
Put Fake
Drawers To Good Use
You'll
often see fake drawers in kitchens, under sinks and other areas where a full
drawer won't fit. Just because a real drawer won't fit there, though, doesn't
mean you can't use that space for storage.
If you're
handy, you can take the drawer fronts off and convert them to tilting storage.
It's the best place to keep small things, like sponges and cloths. It's a
little bit of extra storage that makes more difference than you'd think.
Display
Items
You may not
want to have everything out on the walls, but do you have anything that you're
proud of? For example, if you have a gorgeous dinner set you were gifted on
your wedding day, or a crock pot that you inherited from your grandma, then why
not put it out on display?
Plates work
well here, as they can be placed in racks that don't take up a lot of space and
still look great. If you think your items will fit in well with your new Mr C Residences
kitchen, then why not show them off?
Use The
Space Above Cabinets
in some
kitchens, you'll have space above your cabinets. If they don't reach the
ceiling, then that's space you can put to good use. Many like to use baskets to
organize things up there, so everything looks neat and tidy. If you use wire
baskets, you can still see everything, too.
If you use
this trick, ensure you put items you don't use often up there. That way, you're
not always climbing the counters looking for what you need.
Use
Narrow Spaces
Have a
narrow space in your kitchen? Then you can get a sliding shelf rack in there.
The space between your fridge and the wall is always good for this. You can fit
items like canned goods in there easily, freeing up another cabinet for
storage.
With these tips you'll be able to get the absolute most out of the storage in your small kitchen. It may be small ,but that doesn't mean you can't put the space to good use.
